Frequently Requested Information

Choosing Your First Wig

When picking your first wig, consider:

Hair type: Human hair wigs look and feel natural, can be styled with heat, and last longer. Synthetic wigs are lighter and often lower-maintenance but can look less realistic and don’t last as long. (All our wigs at Haló are human hair).

Cap type: Lace front, full lace, or glue less beginner caps all have different benefits. Some are more easier to manage than others. Especially with a first time wig, I would lean toward a beginner or lace front cap. (You can read more about these in the wig terminology section!)

Length & density: I would recommend choosing something that matches your lifestyle and experience with hair. Shorter styles are easier to manage; longer styles need more care.Start with a style and colour that feels most “you” , your confidence matters more than anything else.

Not all wigs are the same, and your day-to-day life should guide your choices. Consider:

Activity level:If you’re active, lighter wigs or secure cap constructions can be easier to wear.

Maintenance time:Some styles require more styling; others are lower-maintenance for busy days.

Climate & season:Lighter wigs for summer, breathable caps for warmer climates, etc.
Choosing a wig that suits your lifestyle helps you wear it comfortably, confidently, and without stress, making the experience feel effortless. Don’t forget, you can have more than one wig to suit different aspects of your lifestyle!

Wig Fit & Comfort

Make sure your wig fits snugly but comfortably, not too tight or loose. Proper head measurements are key here. We will measure you during an in person consultation or there is a detailed tutorial on how to measure your own head in our education hub section! Adjustable straps, combs, or elastic bands can help secure your wig in place. A proper fit will help your wig look natural and feel like a part of you.

Coping with hair loss for the first time

Hair loss can feel overwhelming, emotional, and sometimes isolating. Remember, it’s okay to grieve the change, and it’s normal to feel anxious or self-conscious at first.

Tips: Give yourself time to adjust, you don’t need to have it all figured out immediately. Surround yourself with supportive people who understand or are willing to learn. Journaling or speaking with a professional can help process emotions.

Small steps matter: wearing a wig, scarf, or hat can help you feel more comfortable while you adapt. The key is to be gentle with yourself, confidence comes gradually, not overnight. (It took me years!) Always remember - You Are Not Alone.

The Hair Loss Haven

The Hair Loss Haven was co-founded by me, Saoirse (owner of Halo Studio) alongside my friend and fellow hair loss advocate Caoilfhinn (The 2026 Westmeath Rose! - Super proud sponsor right here!)

We created The Hair Loss Haven from our own personal experiences with hair loss and everything that can come with it, the isolation, insecurity, overwhelm, and feeling like nobody really understands. Our goal is to build a supportive, non-judgemental community where people with hair loss can feel safe, understood, empowered, and less alone.

Our first event in March 2026 was an incredible success, bringing together people from all over Ireland for a day filled with support, education, connection, honest conversations, and confidence-building. The response honestly meant the world to us, and it showed us just how badly this kind of community is needed. We’re now continuing to grow The Hair Loss Haven into a welcoming space for everyone affected by hair loss — men, women, boys, and girls of all ages.

We have plans doe lots more events, collaborations, and community projects, and we’d love to have you follow along on our socials at @thehairlosshaven.

You’re also always welcome to get in touch with either of us directly if you’d like to be added to our Hair Loss Haven WhatsApp community group.

You can find more information and stay up to date with events on The Hair Loss Haven Page as well as our social media.
